New Release: Young Witchcraft 2020 @StephBurkhart @KMNbooks #witches #Salem

Karen: Let's welcome Stephanie Burkhart!

Stephanie: I’d like to thank Karen Michelle Nutt for having me here today. I have new “old” release that I’m excited about: Young Witchcraft.  Originally published in 2015, Young Witchcraft is the story of Rachel Braxton, a good witch, who grows up in Salem, Massachusetts.  It’s not easy being a witch and Salem is a tough place.  Rachel has to learn to avoid Phil “Chipped Tooth” Bean who is a bully that loves to pick on witches.  A young boy, named Joe, also has to deal with Phil the Bully.

I really enjoyed the writing the story, and I thought it was a pretty solid young adult story.  It won third place, Young/New Adult Short in the International Digital Awards in 2015.  As I sought to republish in 2020, I gave  the story a bit of an update with some of the struggles Rachel and Joe face. To my surprise, my beta readers, liked the character of Suzie, who really shined in the end.

I grew up in New England, and while I’ve never been to Salem, I’d like to think the essence of the region shines through.  If you enjoy a hearty New England Clam Chowder, I hope you like my recipe.

Steph’s Authentic New England Clam Chowder

¼ pound of butter

1 teaspoon of dill

½ cup celery

½ teaspoon thyme

½ cup onions

¼ pound of flour

1 ¼ pound of potatoes (cut into cubes)

1 tablespoon of clam base

48 oz of clam juice

3 cans of minced clams

Half & half

Salt & Pepper

Saute butter, dill, clery, thyme, onions until veggies are soft. Add flour to make a roux.

After the roux, add clam juice, base, and potatoes. Bring to a boil and keep boiling until potatoes are tender.

After the potatoes get tender, add the clams, heat until hot, but don’t boil. Add salt, pepper, and half and half to taste.

Yields about 8-12 soup bowls.

Karen: Sound delicious! Stephanie, thank you so much for being here today.

About YOUNG WITCHCRAFT:

Rachel’s secret would have Cotton Mather rolling over in his grave. She’s been raised from an early age to use magic for good, despite her temptation to cast a spell against Phil the bully who can’t stop teasing her.

Joe thinks Rachel is cool, especially when she weaves her healing magic on him, but he’s got his own problems. It’s not easy keeping Rachel safe from Phil’s constant threats.

When Phil poisons Rachel, can love and a little young witchcraft bring Rachel and Joe together or have the years of Phil’s bullying ruined their relationship for good?

Young Witchcraft is available as an ebook on Amazon .

Stephanie I have not read any of your books but this sounds like an intriguing story line. It is great you can release the story again. I am having that happen to me as well. My hat is off to you and your publisher for letting that happen. Thank you Karen for giving Stephanie visibility on your nice site.
