Santa Wore Leathers! @VonnieWrites @KMNbooks @HarperImpulse

Karen: I'm thrilled to have the talented Vonnie Davis here today! She's a multi-published author of romance, both contemporary and historical, and romantic suspense. She's here to share her new release with us today, Santa Wore Leathers! Take it away, Vonnie!

Vonnie: I’m so thrilled to be on your blog today to talk about a subject I adore: Pets. I’ve long believed we need our furry children as much as they need us. They know our moods, when we need cheering up and when we’re sick. And, as a writer, I often make them a character in my stories.

Take Einstein, a German Shepherd, in my recently released novella Santa Wore Leathers. Einstein’s on a mission. He wants his man-shy mistress to spend time with their new neighbor. He likes the way Dan “Wolf” Wolford smells and scratches him behind the ears. Becca, his mistress, is trying to ignore how she likes the way Wolf looks and moves and…well, you get the picture. Still, having been burned badly in her divorce, she’s not having any of the ex-SEAL’s macho attraction, so Einstein figures he’ll have to do his part to bring them together.

But how can a dog bring these two together? He wouldn’t resort to something as low-down as thong stealing, would he? Hey, they don’t call him Einstein for nothing.

Wolf strode to her townhouse, rang the doorbell and waited.

Finally, her door opened, and he was greeted with a scowl.

“What?” She tugged the lapels of her short white silky robe together.

“I…ah…” His gaze snagged on all those ample curves showcased by the slinky material. I…ah…”

“You said that already.” She fisted a hand on her hip.

Einstein cannonballed around Becca with something red clamped in his jaws. He streaked across the grass, his strong muscles propelling him as he circled both of their yards.

“Get back in here!” Becca pointed into her house.

Einstein loped across the grass and shrubbery, ignoring his owner’s command.

Maybe if he acted the hero and returned the pet to its owner, he’d gain a few brownie points. “Stay here. I’ll get him.” Wolf took off after the dog. Seeing he was being chased only made Einstein run faster. Wolf followed him twice around the yard in front of Becca’s house. The dog leapt over a flowerbed and stopped, his head lowered, shaking his prize, his hind end elevated, wiggling in excitement.

“Give me that.” Wolf stepped to the right around the flowerbed. The dog trotted to the left. In a quick move, he sprinted to the left and the dog dashed to the right. “Think you’re smart, don’t you?” He could have sworn the dog smiled. Wolf leapt across the blooms, hoping to grab the smartass canine. Once he’d grabbed the collar, they rolled, and Einstein yelped. Wolf grimaced as he, too, rolled across a low-growing cactus and into the trunk of a palm tree. “Dammit.”

The dog whined and dropped the fabric to lick and bite at the prickly thorns in his groin.

“Easy now, Einstein.” Wolf cooed as he slipped his Swiss army knife from the front pocket of his jeans.

“What’s wrong? What’s going on? What are you doing with that knife?” Becca tugged on the hem of her short robe and glanced up and down the street as if she thought to run out into the yard.

“Stay where you are. He’ll be fine. He’s got some thorns in his hide.” Wolf removed the tweezers stored in a slot of the knife and began extracting the offending needles. “We can’t have an awesome fella like you in pain now, can we?” He worked as quickly as he could. “One more, big guy, and then you’ll be fine.” The dog licked him several times. “Yeah, I like you too. Let’s keep what I’m about to do just between us, shall we?” He ran his fingers over the affected groin area, keeping his attentions on the dog’s reactions. “Looks like we got them all.”

“What in blue blazes are you doing to that dog? Are you performing some kind of ‘beasty-wildy’ on him?” Mrs. Minelli, his neighbor, punctured the air with her cane, her white eyebrows arched in question.

He fought the urge to laugh. “No, Mrs. Minelli. I was taking out thorns.”

She cocked her head to the side, her cataract-clouded eyes widened. “In his penis?”

There’s only one thing on Becca Sinclair’s Christmas list this holiday season – her very own column in the local paper. And if she can build a huge blog following, her wish just might come true.

Enter Dan “Wolf” Wolford aka the man-whore next door and the new star of Becca’s popular, post-divorce blog about men. A Navy SEAL turned commander of the Florida Marine Rescue Unit, Wolf’s the very definition of the word alpha – and with an endless rotation of women on his doorstep, this hunk on a Harley has Becca and her female followers all hot and bothered!

All Becca wants for Christmas is her newspaper column, right? But when she finds herself the target of Wolf’s irresistible attentions, her snarky comebacks become less and less convincing and, suddenly, she’s not so sure anymore…

Interview with a Man Who Has A Wicked Past @rebeccajvickery @KMNbooks #blackfriday

Let's give a warm welcome to Gerald Costlow and his character from A Wicked Past, Archie Taylor!

Karen: Good morning, Archie and Gerald.
Archie: Good morning, ma'am.
Gerald: Good morning. I hope you don't mind, but I wanted to let the readers know that for Black Friday I'm giving away 3 eBook copies of A Wicked Past to 3 lucky readers who leave a comment.

Karen: Fantastic! Readers, don't forget to leave your email so Gerald can contact you if you should win!

Karen: Now for the interview you all been waiting for. Archie, describe yourself in four words.
Archie: I am a gambler.

Karen: What is it about your love interest (Nancy Darling) that makes you crazy in a good way?
Archie: I find myself wanting to be the “gentleman of good character” she mistakes me for.

Karen: What about your love interest makes you crazy in a bad way?
Archie: I end up taking crazy risks to help a woman I’ve just met.

Karen: What are your greatest challenges in that world?
Archie: Escaping my wicked past.

Karen: What do you fear the most?
Archie: That Nancy Darling will reject me once she discovers I’m a thief and a liar.

Karen: How did you get together with your heroine in “A Wicked Past”?
Archie: Pure luck brought me to her door in the middle of a blizzard.

Karen: What makes you perfect for each other?
Archie: We both follow our own rules in spite of what society thinks but both of us yearn for someone to share our life.

Karen: Tell me about your antagonist in this book “A Wicked Past”. Is he/she evil or just confused?
Does he/she have any good points? What ties you together?

Archie: Oh, there’s no doubt in my mind that Marshall Dixon is a stone-cold killer. He doesn’t go out of his way to hurt people, but he won’t lose a night’s sleep over your death if you cross him, either. I stole his treasure map so you might say I’ve gotten on his bad side.

Karen: That concludes the interview. Archie, it was nice to get to know you better and I sure hope everything works out for you and your gal. Gerald, thanks so much for bringing Archie with you and not Marshall Dixon. lol

Author: Sharon Kleve
Publisher: Books to Go Now

Release Date: 9.13.2013
Length: 50 pages

Book Blurb:
Halo Ann Carlyle wishes for a home, family, and a boat-load of pets. What she gets is a bruised hip, a lump on the head, a broken ankle, and her new yellow Honda Civic is demolished.

Rich McFarland, a sexy veterinarian, keeps showing up in the most unexpected places, promising everything she's ever wanted.

Halo believes she only has time to pursue her career as a pet detective and must ignore her growing attraction to achieve her dreams.

Will Halo trust her heart, and find a way to get both for Christmas?

She'd just placed another call through to Pemsky's office, which went straight to his voicemail, when the office door opened. Halo smiled and looked up into dreamy, gold-flecked green eyes, short sandy brown hair, a slight cleft chin, and full lips set in a hard line. Even with the stern look he had on his face, my hormones jumped into overdrive.

Mr. Dreamy cleared his throat—she must've been staring. In her most professional voice she said, "Good morning. How may I help you?"

He removed a piece of paper from his shirt pocket and unfolded the sheet.

"I was parked in front of the Beacon Hill Ale House and my driver's side mirror was sideswiped by one of Pemsky's Security's SUV's Friday night."

Halo loved the Beacon Hill Ale House. Every Saturday night the Ale House allowed local bands to jam together. That's where she'd met her last loser boyfriend. She'd had a lot of loser boyfriends. She's currently on a hiatus from dating, but she wouldn't mind jumping back into the dating game for this dream-boat.

He handed her the piece of paper.

"I wasn't able to get a look at the driver, but I got the license plate number of the vehicle that hit my car and drove away."

He emphasized the last part.

"I'm very sorry about your car. I'm sure Mr. Pemsky will be happy to cover the damage." Halo checked the company log and Pemsky's name popped up as the driver—she gulped.

Author: Sharon Kleve
Publisher: Books to Go Now
Genre: Contemporary Christmas Romance
Release Date: 11.20.2013
Length: 50 pages
Heat Rating: Sweet

Book Blurb:
Like any child Brenda Howser loved Christmas until her parents were killed by a drunk driver during their annual shopping trip.

Brenda went to live with her aunt, who blamed their death on everything that represented Christmas; the gifts, the tree, and all the decorations.

The festivities' Brenda once cherished became something she dreaded under the shadow of her parents death. She lived in fear of something happening to the people she loved during Christmas.

Christmas approaches and Brenda has to decide if she’s going to let the past hold her prisoner for another year or if she can finally enjoy what Christmas used to mean to her—love.

DEA agent, John Smith knows the significance of December fifteenth to Brenda, but when the head of the Nuevo Cartel escapes federal prison he's forced to let her face the day without him, but not quite alone.

Can Daisy, a golden Labrador puppy, a huge sale on decorations at the hardware store, and a gift from her aunt restore her love of Christmas?

December 2013
The weather forecast for the Western Washington area, specifically North Seattle, predicted a good five-to-six inches of snow. Brenda Houser watched the flakes float like cotton balls from the sky as she dipped a tortilla chip into a bowl of thick and chunky salsa and popped the morsel into her mouth.

Her boss, Corny Myers, tapped her pencil on Brenda's reception desk to the beat of The Little Drummer Boy, which streamed from the Green Hornet Investigations Bose speakers.

"Hey, Brenda. I have bad eating habits but I've never started the day with chips and salsa.

What's up?" Corny asked.

"You know how I feel about all the holiday hoopla. I'd rather stick my head in the sand and pull it back out in January."

"Do you really think Mexican food is going to make you feel better?"

"Probably not, but a couple margaritas might help."

Will they find room in their hearts to take him in? And can this Christmas season weave some special magic for the two of them?

Book Excerpt:
“I’m happy this wasn’t your worst date ever, because I had a great time.” He lifted her chin with the tips of his finger. Slowly he lowered his head until she thought she would die of anticipation. He clamped his hands to her waist and gazed into her eyes. “You’re so beautiful…” There was depth and sincerity in the tone of his voice. She felt special. Desired. He dropped his head and kissed her.

Gentle at first and then deep. She couldn’t breathe. He’d sucked all the air from her lungs, but there was no way she wanted him to stop. As she brushed his firm lips to hers, she relished the feel of her blood simmering in her veins. Par slid his fingers through her long hair to cradle and position her head to kiss her even more thoroughly.

His lips pulled away from hers and he stepped back. She reached for the roof of the car to steady herself. Oh. My. God… could this man kiss.

“Not bad for a first date,” he whispered and then kissed her gently again.

Okay… so it was a date. After that kiss it turned into an ‘official date’ and she had no regrets at all.

But, Christmas has a way of changing what we thought we wanted… especially when Santa and an adorable four-legged ‘elf’ are involved.

“What’s this?” Hanna asked, as she ran a hand over the grocery bag wrapping paper. Julian took her coat and hung it by the door so she could follow Gabe into the living room.

“Daddy saw this in a store window and said that we had to get it for you. Open it!” Gabe said. “I wrapped it myself,” he added proudly.

“But it’s not Christmas.”

“No. This is a before Christmas gift. You have to open it now.”

She pulled off a half-pound of scotch tape and finally the paper fell away. Hanna stared at the gift in disbelief. “A Christmas sock… with my name on it.”

Julian came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist. “You told me that you’d never had a Christmas stocking of your own when you were growing up. Gabe knew  Santa wouldn’t know where you were if you didn’t have you sock hung somewhere.” He winked. “So you needed it.”

“You can take it to your home or you can hang it here!” Gabe shouted almost tripping over Cody.

Character Interview Blog Hop: Meet Dougray Fitzpatrick, Lord of Dunhaven @KMNbooks #timetravel

Sir Dougray Fitzpatrick, Lord of Dunhaven is one of my favorite heroes. Probably because he was my 'first'. First hero that is, who spoke the loudest and pushed me to pen his tale.
All my heroes worm their way into my heart as they fall in love with my heroines, but Dougray has a special place there and he’s here today for an interview. Hopefully he’ll charm you into falling in love with him, too.
KAREN: What is Lost in the Mist of Time about?
DOUGRAY: Time Travel. Petty feuds, conspiracies and threats plague my people of Dunhaven, but these are the least of my problems when a magical mist tossed me into the future. Neala, the old woman of the glen, foresaw this and warned me not to tarry, and I did not, but the fool woman I met there followed me back to my time. What else could I do? You probably already guessed, and I am sure you are most correct. I brought her home with me.
KAREN: What did you think the first time you saw the heroine, Aislinn Hennessy?

DOUGRAY: Beautiful and strong, but entirely too bold and outspoken for my taste.

KAREN: What was your second thought?

DOUGRAY: The longer I spent time with her the more I found the headstrong lass to my liking. Not even magical mists will keep me from having her. Her lovely lips may say ‘no’ to my advances, but winning her trust and her heart is a challenge I cannot refuse.

KAREN: Where is Dunhaven and what do you do there? Or should I say when was Dunhaven known for its grandness
DOUGRAY: Dunhaven is in Ireland and I am the Lord of Dunhaven. I take my job seriously and will do my best to keep all who reside there safe. Sadly, Dunhaven no longer stands strong and true, but in the 16th century no forces could break through her defenses.
KAREN: What do you like most about Aislinn?

DOUGRAY: Her courage, strength and her kind heart. The lass takes the weak and encourages them to do grand feats. I am in awe of the woman’s ability to find goodness in all. As for courage, even injured, bleeding, and faced with the knowledge someone wants her dead, she does not whimper. No, my fair maiden picks up a sword and fights. Ah…she is truly a worthy woman to have at my side
KAREN: If you could change one thing about her, what would it be?

DOUGRAY: Change her? I would not. She is perfect the way she is.

KAREN: What is your biggest fear?

DOUGRAY: There are two fears. That I won’t be able to make Aislinn happy at Dunhaven. She wants to go home and I can’t blame her. I have seen the marvels of her time. How am I to compete with such wonders? But I know the lass loves me. I see it in her eyes and the way she touches me. I only need to prove she can trust me and I will win her heart.
The other fear is knowing there is a threat at Dunhaven. I must find the culprit before he harms the woman I’ve fallen in love with. Of this I vow: I will push myself to the limit and even risk death to keep her safe.

Aislinn Hennessy pens tales of courage, loyalty, and true love, but her heroes of old are pure fantasy—figments of her imagination. She long ago gave up thinking a knight in shining armor would sweep her off her feet, but then she never expected to run him off the road either.

Sir Dougray Fitzpatrick has buried one wife and vows to never love again—but destiny has other plans for this 16th century Irish Lord. During a battle, a mist separates Dougray from his men and casts him into the future. Dougray must return to Dunhaven and to his century, but Aislinn follows him into the mist, leaving him no choice, but to take her home with him.

Conspiracies, feuds and unexpected violence are commonplace threats, but along the way, Aislinn and Dougray discover a surprise neither one expects: a chance for love even when they're Lost in the Mist of Time.
