All Things Romantic!

Importance of Valentine's Day Romance

Everyone likes a little romance in his or her lives. It gives us the feeling of togetherness. It makes the relationship stronger and gives us a possibility of experiencing our first breathtaking kiss all over again. Romance is warmth and understanding, a bond of trust and love. Valentine’s Day gives us a chance to charm the one person we care most for.

Authors let’s celebrate with our romances. How would our characters celebrate Valentine’s Day? Share a scene of their first kiss. Share your blurbs or a short excerpt. Don’t forget to supply links to your website or where to buy your book. Have fun! (Please let the readers know the rating of your story. I do ask you keep your posts PG13 so all may enjoy the day! Thank you so much!)

Readers celebrate today by telling us about your favorite Valentine’s Day or what you think is romantic. Is it a stroll along the beach? Movie night? A nice bubble bath? If you want, share you favorite romantic couples of all time. I love Claire and Jamie in Outlander by Diana Gabaldon.

Hi! Am I the first author to drop in? I'm Stephanie Cage, from Yorkshire, England (GMT is a little ahead of the US). My sensual contemporary romance, 'Desperate Bid' is out now from The Wild Rose Press, and available on Amazon. Here's a little taster:

The thought made her smile, and on impulse she threw her arms back around Alex, enjoying the shock on his face. She leaned in closer, and their lips met, cool and soft and very sweet. After a long moment she pulled her mouth away, needing to breathe. Now that she had space to notice something other than the soft pressure of his lips on hers, the rest of the world pressed in on her, and she felt the chill of her soaking clothes clinging to her body. “My clothes are wet,” she complained. “Better take them off, then,” he murmured, and she didn’t argue.

Thanks! Stephanie

Oh, and I forgot to mention... of course Sarah and Alex would celebrate Valentine's Day by going to a rock gig, like the one where they met!

Oh Stephanie,

Very good scene!! Hmm... I wonder what Alex has in mind for next? lol

Thanks for sharing!

Here's a scene from Eli: Warriors for the Light (Fallen Angels Book 1)

“I want to kiss you, Ryden O’Sullivan. What do you say about that?”
Man, the way Eli said her name, curling it off his tongue like he was describing a tantalizing sweet. She wanted him to kiss her, too. “I…”

He didn’t wait for her to finish and she really didn’t know what she was going to tell him anyway. It didn’t seem to matter now. He took the steps that separated them. His one hand encircled her waist, bringing her closer. His other hand tipped her head up, cradling it in his palm. Slowly, lazily, never breaking eye contact, he lowered his mouth to hers, claiming her lips. The sweet urgency of his kiss was like a drug, making her shake, breathless and yearning for more. The kiss spilled through to her soul with recognition. She kissed him before…made love to him.

Startled at where her thoughts had drifted, she shook her head and pulled away. That wasn’t right. They hadn’t even dated and she sure would remember taking this man to her bed. Man, her brain was severely scrambled.

Fantastic idea, Karen. Thanks for letting us share. I'm Sarah Grimm, from Michigan, and my romantic suspense, NOT WITHOUT RISK is out now from The Wild Rose Press. In fact, it's up for Long and Short of It's Best Book of 2010!

Here's Justin and Paige's first kiss:

"I'm glad you weren't busy."

"It wouldn't have mattered," he said, his fingers continuing to dance down her neck and settle at her throat. "Busy or not, I still would have answered your call." His free hand slid around her waist, eased her closer until she could feel his warm breath brush across her lips. "This is where I want to be."

Longing swamped her. Her pulse thundered in her ears. She lifted her hand, placed it against the center of his chest. "Justin."

His lips brushed against hers lightly, gently, and her mind clicked off. Her body reacted immediately, instinctively. Her blood heated. Her bones melted. Sensation shot through her like lightning bolts.

Great idea, Karen. Here's an excerpt from my new release, The Comet. This kiss is a little different because he's an enemy and she's not sure she wants him.
Fumbling at the gaudy tie, she drew out a necklace of stones like the eyes of a cat. Carefully drilled and strung on a fine wire, they slid through her fingers smoothly.
“They are called topaz,” Neel explained. Stunned, Rowena had neither moved nor spoken. “They are the color of your eyes. I have given Bryna a gown for you, too. And a head covering.” He smiled at her. “I think you will like ours better. All I ask is that you wear them for Christ’s Mass.”
She remained obdurately silent, but she could not…dared not…refuse. No doubt the gown was Norman. He called her “little Saxon,” yet did not wish her to appear to be one. And perhaps, if Ralf had spoken truly, he was correct and she wasn’t one at all.
“Here,” Neel said as if her acceptance was a given. “Sit beside me and I will put it on you.”
Still mute, she perched rigidly on the edge of the mattress she had shared with him in perfect comfort when he was unconscious. This time he was awake and aware and so was she-- jolted by every nuance as he touched her for the first time.
He was efficient, raising her wild hair with a hand holding its weight, parting it and dropping it forward over both shoulders so that he could fix the clasp of the necklace. She felt the cold, rich stones against her collarbones and heard the tiny snick of the clasp as he put his claim on her.
He lifted her hair back carefully, not catching it in the necklace. But he did not take his hands from her shoulders after he had done it.
She fell back upon manners, drilled into her by Bryna. “I have nothing for you,” she said faintly.
“Then give me a kiss.”
There it was--the trap she had sensed. She could wrest her body from beneath his hands and bolt for the door and he couldn’t stop her, but that was only postponing the inevitable. Slowly, she turned her head to the side, not moving towards him but not moving away.
“Come,” he said softly, inching closer. How was he doing that…hurt as he was?
“Be careful,” she said, ambiguously.
“It’s just a kiss.”
It would be capitulation…unspoken acknowledgement of his ownership. But just as the needs of the body had drawn her to offered food, other needs tempted her, too. Trapped not by his hands but by her own indecision, she made no move to resist as he turned her within their circle, now at her waist. It was an awkward position, though, leaving her in imminent danger of falling off the side of the bed.
“Better hold on,” he said, the devil incarnate. She did, twining her hands in his fine tunic as he spread his palm against her back to support her. The other hand cupped the back of her head. Infinitely gentle, he lowered his face to hers, teasing at her lips.
“Very sweet,” he murmured. It was nothing like she had thought a kiss would be. She had imagined Ralf plunging his tongue into her as Leofric had done…pictured him groping her breast, hurting her, gross and fetid.
It was not like that at all. Neel’s tongue traced the outline of hers lips, slow and enticing, not a bit revolting. When his lips nudged hers gently she opened her mouth, sighing. He kissed her slowly and deeply, a silken invasion that set her heart pounding. Her hold on him increased, involuntarily, and she felt his response in the strength of his hand on her back, fingers splayed, supporting her. Guiding her. He drew her against his chest until she could feel her breasts taut and aching against his warm flesh and started to resist. Immediately, his grip slackened and he lifted his face from hers.
“I’m only playing, little Saxon,” he whispered.

Hey Karen, thanks for the opportunity. :) This is an excerpt from Leopard's Key, part of the Dreams & Desires 4 from - all proceeds go to charity to stop abuse.

He needed to touch her. To taste her. To tame her. It
wasn’t just desire running through his body, but sharp,
stabbing need. His blood ran hot, hungry to feel her body. It would be so soft. Feminine. He moved closer, stilling her hand. The hair on his forearms tingled to life. Like the whiskers on his leopard’s face, the hair on his body was equally sensitive, and the heat and texture of her flesh penetrated all the way to his bones.

“No need to run, little pussycat. I don’t bite.” He
couldn’t stop himself. He followed, stepping between her and the display cases. Whatever had taken hold of him stripped away the last vestige of control he had on his own desires, and he leaned down to taste her. “Much.”

Hi, Karen - What a great idea! Thanks for letting us share. This short kiss is from the first book in my Faith Savage Demon Huntress series - Glow. Faith is unsure who to trust in the fight for the salvation of mankind and in this scene it is Raphael who captures her... (Available Now at Mojocastle - Gothic, Paranormal, Serials )

“I want you, Faith,” he told me, his voice thick with desire. His eyes darkened with purpose and pure male sexual intent. My pulse beat frantically while I stood before him, divested of not only my clothing, but my will to think coherently.

Every nerve ending I had sparked with desire, and he’d barely touched me, which just caused the synapses to spark even harder.

“Let me show you the delights of Heaven,” he whispered, leaning in towards me, his hand caressing the side of my face. Casually it trailed downwards, grazed a heated path along the fullness of an aching breast, the tightness of my constricted belly. He gathered me in the grasp of his palms, firmly, at the edge of my waist.

I had no idea what vicarious games were being played in the Realms of Heaven and Hell, but if I were going to burn… My sigh was all the entreaty he needed.

Pulling me hard against him he brought the heat of his lips to mine; a soulful kiss to melt my heart, steal my soul and collapse any resolve I might have ever hoped to have had. I was lost.

Lost to the desires that rode my body. Lost to the need that coursed from him to me and back again, and lost to the longing for acceptance. Acceptance and love from the one creature who knew me best. Rafael…

Blessings ~ K.

Valentine's Day is a celebration of love and love comes in many different forms.

My new gay romance release 'Pascal's Boys' is on that subject.

Blurb -

Pascal Janssen is terminally ill and tries to help ‘his boys’ Tom and Adam prepare for his death.

Beautiful, inspirational, heartrending, but ultimately optimistic Pascal’s Boys is a story about the forms that love can take.

Hello and Happy Valentines Day! Thanks for this opportunity to post romance-themed excerpts today. I'm romance author Betty Ann Harris.

Here is a PG but mature audience excerpt from my spellbinding romantic suspense thriller, Eureka Point:

I stood behind her and she slowly turned to face me. Her eyes sparkled with firelight, silently calling me to her.

Without saying a word, I took the towel and slowly went over the curves of her body, drying the wet drops as they fell from her drenched hair onto her shoulders and then slid further down, onto the rounded tops of her full breasts.

Our eyes met, finally knowing Craig was no longer a threat, relieved we did not have to run and hide, and unable to hold back any longer, our passion ignited.

Lizzie pulled at my wet shirt, unable to remove it fast enough. I tore off my wet clothing as Lizzie removed the remainder of hers. I stood close, taking in the sweet,
hypnotic scent of her, captivated by her beauty.

“God, you’re beautiful,” I said, breathing heavily in her ear.

I grabbed her to me and we fell onto the rug in front of the
fireplace in each other’s arms.

Hi Karen,

Happy Valentine's Day! My excerpt is from Captive, a sensual short fantasy romance epublished by Books to Go Now.

When he discovered the curve of her cheek next, she closed her eyes. The scent of pine and sandalwood tickled her nose, and her senses flared to life. Pin pricks shivered over her skin. Time and perception coalesced, as if she’d been born just to experience this moment.

The heat of his lips took up the path his fingers had left. Her eyes shot open. “W…what are you doing?”

“Getting to know you properly,” he murmured, not lifting his head.

“This isn’t how you get to know someone.” Her breathless tone made her shudder. She did not lose control like this.

“It’s my preferred method of dealing with you, especially since you won’t talk.”

“I’m talking now.”

“Ah, but it’s too late now.”

“Why do yo--” He covered her mouth with his, effectively killing any coherent thought in her brain. When his tongue flicked against her lips, she pressed them together in shock.

That only delayed his investigation by a few seconds. The seam of her lips soon crumbled under his onslaught until she matched fervor with fervor. His rugged breathing sounded in her ears, spurring her on. When he pulled back, she breathed just as heavily as he did.

Hi! I'm Susan Hanniford Crowley, the author of the Vampires in Manhattan series. My latest book however is a steampunk romance set in Victorian England called Mrs. Bright's Tea Room and it's available at All Romance Ebook. These first kisses are between Euthalia, a young woman who works for the first time in Mrs. Bright's Tea Room which ia a brothel in a lavender dirigible, and Captain Travers, a dashing airship captain are in the bathtub.

"All the girls spoke of how wonderful you made them feel, and Mrs.
Bright said you were the best to be my first because of your gentle manners."
"But you are frightened."
She shivered, and biting her lip, a tear streamed down her face.
He wiped the tear with his finger. "Now, Eulie, let's have none of that. I will not do anything you
do not want. I am yours to command."
She shook her head, looking down, and then away.
"I mean it. We don't have to do anything except become clean." He picked up the sponge and
rubbed away at her left arm.
Euthalia giggled. He was wonderful. She put a hand on his cheek and leaned toward him.
He leaned toward her, kissing her, not once but three times, long breathless kisses.
"Please, call me Timmeous."

SWEET KISS EXCERPT – Nicked Hearts RRP Bestseller M/C PG13

Hi, all,
I’m Mickie Sherwood.

Nicked Hearts is a sweet, romantic fast-paced romp.

Have you ever been to Hawaii? Have you ever been to Hawaii with Dr. Feelgood?

K.C. has. And—can he kiss!

The message light on the telephone blinked red immediately upon her entering the living room. K.C. left the double doors open, latched the screen and continued to her bedroom. The glass door in there followed suit as she allowed the sea breeze to permeate the villa. She tried to resist but the lure was too much. The look at Nick’s villa consumed her until the phone rang causing her heart to pound. It was very unlikely her father was privy to her whereabouts. She had been very meticulous about everything she did since leaving Bush Intercontinental Airport.

The treble ring continued mushrooming in the quiet.

Cautious steps put her within reach of the receiver which she quietly lifted to listen without saying a word.

“K.C.?” She heard Nick’s voice. “K.C., are you okay?” This time something else hammered each syllable.

“Hi, Nick Hart.”

“Hi, yourself.”

She liked that familiar greeting. “How did things go today?” K.C. took the lead on the conversation.

“It was a very productive day. And yours?”

“I had a wonderful day, Nick. Would you believe I went parasailing…and snorkeling?”

The pride in her voice was hard to miss. The shock was obvious in his as he bellowed, “Parasailing!” Of course, he knew about snorkeling. His disturbed articulation went unnoticed in her world.

“You should’ve seen me hang loose, drifting like I didn’t have a care in the world.”

“I’m glad I didn’t.” It was out of his mouth like a shot. “I mean—”

“Explain that, Nick Hart.” K.C. paced to the door in agitation. He was already on his lanai watching her advance.

“I’m coming over.” He struck out across the green grass seconds after spitting out the words and slinging the receiver to a chair.

She hung up to wait on him so she could put him in his place. The itchy sandy discomfort had her twitching as he stomped up, impounded her body—no less—and placed one heck of a kiss on her color tinted lips. “What was that for?” she asked, not sure whether to be flattered or furious.

“I missed you today.”

His admission took the wind out of her red sails. She gazed affectionately at the black haired man whose nickname could have been Doctor Feelgood for he certainly made her feel that way. “That’s nice.” The response sounded lame to her ears.

At least she hadn’t slapped him and sent him on his way. “Got plans for tonight?”

“How about honoring me with your presence at the luau?”

“Okay,” she said sweetly as if just hearing about the function. “As you can see, I’m a mess.”

“If that’s the case, K.C., you’re the prettiest mess I’ve ever laid eyes on.”

She laughed. He flushed. “Nick, you’re blushing.” K.C. stepped out of her comfort zone with her next move. Standing on ballerina toes and using her finger and thumb to pull his chin down gave her added height to smooch his cheek. “Give me a couple of hours, okay?” She needed a few minutes of down time.

Nick bravely went a step further and brushed their lips together. “Take all the time you need. Just call when you’re ready.”

Again, K.C. relinquished a little of her control to enjoy the fleeting moment of wishful thinking. She backed off, her tongue tasting the residue of him as he strode back to his villa minus another word. He was the diversion she needed at that moment—one that promised to take her to lofty heights. A pleased grin spun her on her heels and she wandered inside.

Happy Valentine's Day, Karen and all! Here's the first kiss between my empathic vampire hero and the human woman he intended to kill, but lost his heart to instead:

Samantha stepped forward again and stood just at my knees.

I watched her movements with wonder and need. The atmosphere between us thickened and sparked. She looked up at me shyly, but with clear purpose.

“Hmm?” I gripped the edge of the table lest I reach out and pull her flush against my body.

She leaned in further and placed her fingertips on my knees. Electrical impulses ripped up my thighs and settled into the thick organ between my legs.

“Kiss me?”

My breath caught in my throat. My original plan for her made it blasphemous for me to consider accepting her affection. But I wanted it desperately. Wanted her.

We leaned towards one another. I strained to be vigilant in my control. I met her lips tenderly, not wanting to take more risk than I already was. But then she took another step forward and fit herself tight between my legs. She moved her hands to my shoulders. Her heart hammered between our chests.

I needed to be careful, but I had to hold her. I released the table’s edge and wound my hands around her, tangling one in the soft, fine hair behind her head and snaking the other around her narrow waist. Her life thrummed in my arms. I had gone so long without affectionate touch that this felt beyond miraculous. It was simply irresistible.

I was so hungry for her, but not for her blood. I deepened the kiss and stroked my tongue with need and want against hers. Exploring her mouth with abandon, I groaned at the sweetness of her taste and thrilled at being inside of her.

Oh, dolcezza. The taste of her joy, her vivacious personality, the way she loved Ollie, her acceptance of me—everything about her bespoke her sweetness. Her heat seared me. I pulled her in tighter and relished the throb of her pulse against my skin.

She moaned. Her hands found my hair, stroking, pulling, fisting. Had my eyes been open they would have rolled back into my head. Hot feelings of ecstasy roared out of her and into me, and I groaned as I struggled to keep my fangs from stretching out. I pursued her touch, her kiss, again and again. She returned what I gave her with equal fervor.

Minutes passed before she finally pulled away. I released her reluctantly and smiled when she bit her lower lip and grinned up at me. I tasted her happiness and her exhilaration, but some of what I was feeling was my own. And that was a miracle.

My Valentine's Day offering is from HOT SPANISH NIGHTS, my erotic novella from The Wild Rose Press, The Wilder Catalog. It is a hot story.

With a smoldering look, he lifted a toast. “One of our wines. Hope you enjoy.”
Erica tapped her glass to his, sipped the flavorful Malbec and tried not to squirm under his passionate gaze. The mountains rose behind him, a perfect backdrop for a romantic picnic—and a perfect man. A cool breeze blew his hair across his face.
Without breaking eye contact, he tucked his dark mane behind his ears. At last, he blinked, and she felt as if she’d plummeted from a forty-story building. Long, black lashes—the kind a woman would die for—rested for an instant on his cheek.
He set his wine aside. Hunger flashed in his eyes, and her body responded with pleasant tugs in her belly. Holding her breath, Erica watched him lean nearer. One long finger caressed her cheek. Her libido did back flips.
Damián, meaning to subdue, to tame.
This man tamed and trained hot-blooded horses. What about women?

Erica and Damian would spend Valentine's Day on a moonlight ride, mounted on splendid Andalusian stallions, into the hills of Andalusia.

Marie Beau said... Best Blogger Tips

Hi, I'm Marie Beau from New Hampshire. I have a long abiding love of shape shifter romances, so I wrote my own. Here's the latest review and a quick blurb from Wolf!
Ms. Beau has a beautiful way with words. That first meeting is so full of tension my eReader started to fog over. She describes how Lyssa reacts to realizing that the man in front of her is not only a wolf but her destined mate and I think my heart was beating just as loud as Lyssa’s when he touches her hand and her face. In the past I’ve tended to lean towards only reading wolf shifter books but the cats are starting to get to me. I could literally imagine the way my own housecat reacts when we stroke her head or rub her back. Ms. Beau describes Lyssa’s reaction as one of confusion of whether she should claw, bite or purr and that is definitely true to a cats nature.

Wolfe is exactly the type of alpha character you would hope and expect in a shifter book. He is determined and self-confident when suddenly faced with his mate. He’s also protective and fearless when even the slightest hint of harm comes near her. In a word, Wolfe is fierce!

Wolf! was a terrific little novella and I wouldn’t mind revisiting this pack again in the future. We get a sneak peek at Wolfe’s sister and her mate that left me wanting more. For a short story with a lot of heart and some heat to warm these cold nights, pick up a copy of Wolf! Whipped Cream Review, LASR

She was temptation incarnate. Wolfe wanted to let his fingers linger in her short white-blonde hair. Her pixie face and bright hazel eyes were enough to bring any hot-blooded man back for a second look…or more. The intelligence behind the eyes, the self-contained responses only made him want to dig deeper—get to know her—on every level. It was all Wolfe could do not to lift her over the counter and take advantage of the smell of arousal emanating from her body. But her look was anything but inviting. His fingers clutched the hand he was holding a little tighter, well aware of her resistance. Her sigh was his undoing. He reached behind her neck, his fingers luxuriating in the soft fur at her nape. He needed to taste her lips and take just a lick of her neck, maybe a nibble, mark her as his.
Wolfe leaned forward, tugging gently for her to meet him partway, and suddenly he was holding…air.
Silver white fur glimmered and he caught a glimpse of her twitching whiskers and pointed ears as she swiveled and raced to the back. Her transformation was beautiful. A lynx. A soft, furry, intoxicating cat.
